Republicans gathered in Albany today to put pressure on Governor Kathy Hochul to remove the school mask mandate in New York State.

State Senate minority leader Robert Ortt says students are being treated unfairly because masks are no longer required in so many places.

“Sporting events or parties, no mask. They see their adult counterparts, no mask but as soon as they walk into school, got a mask on.”

Ortt and his fellow Republicans also accuse Hochul of not giving specific coronavirus metrics that would need to be met to remove the school mask mandate. Shortly after New Jersey and Connecticut announced plans to remove the mandate, Hochul said she would reevaluate COVID data when students return from break in early March.
