New York City Mayor Eric Adams is unveiling a plan to tackle gun violence following a series of high profile shootings to start off his term.
What Adams calls a blueprint to end gun violence includes more officers on the streets and the reinstatement of the NYPD plain clothes anti crime unit. He also plans to send neighborhood safety teams to the 30 precinct areas that are responsible for most of the city’s violence.
“We will not surrender our city to the violent few and we will not go back to the bad old days. We are going to get trigger pullers off the streets and guns out of their hands.
Adams is proposing to expand the youth employment program during the summer, a time when gun violence traditionally spikes. He’s also calling on state lawmakers to revisit bail reform laws.
