Environmental Study Underway For Rail Line Connecting Queens And Brooklyn

14 Mile Interborough Express
MTA

Officials are starting an environmental review for a new rail line connecting Queens and Brooklyn that Governor Kathy Hochul proposed in her state of the state address. What’s called the Interborough Express would use existing LIRR freight and CSX tracks to form a rail line from Bay Ridge to Jackson Heights. Head Of The Riders Alliance Danny Pearlstein says the 14 mile long line would improve transit access for lower income communities.

“There’s over five million people in Brooklyn and Queen and this ties together 17 different subway lines that run primarily into Manhattan. It creates a new access for travel and new opportunity to reach housing, education and jobs.”

The Rail line would pass through Sunset Park, Brooklyn College, Elmhust and several other communities. It’s expected to be years before stations are built and trains start running.
