The coronavirus vaccine mandate for private businesses takes effect Monday in New York City.

Employees must show proof of at least the first dose to their bosses. Randy Peers is the President of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and thinks the mandate is just one more burden on businesses already dealing with multiple COVID pandemic related challenges.

“Businesses are telling me this. Number one they either don’t understand the regulations. They don’t fully understand what they have to do. They certainly don’t understand the exemption policy and how that’s supposed to work.”

The city is making employers decide whether to grant vaccine exemptions. Employers must keep worker vaccine records and be ready to show them if city inspectors show up. The mandate impacts about 184 thousand businesses.
