New York City officials think the surge of omicron is only expected to last a little longer. Head of the city’s public hospital system, Dr Mitchell Katz forecasts coronavirus will keep surging over the next few weeks.
“but then we believe within mid January, we’ll will start to see cases leveling off and things returning to our new normal.”
Mayor de Blasio says he doesn’t see a scenario where there are shutdowns or students going all remote because of the city’s high vaccination rate. Meanwhile, the city is opening more testing sites this week and bringing in more staff after a high number of sick call outs is partially to blame for long lines at testing sites.
