$113 Million in Federal Funds Available to Help New Jerseyans With Heating Bills This Winter

The funding comes from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program

With energy prices soaring, help is on the way for those in New Jersey who may have problems paying their heating bills.

Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman, whose district includes Trenton, said almost $113 million will be available to people through the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

“These resources can be used to pay your utility bill, can be used to repair your infrastructure that delivers your energy,” she said.

Oil prices are up 60% so far this year.

“Families depend upon this money to stay warm in the winter and to stay cool in the summer and this is another illustration of government being responsive to the needs of people who are underresourced,” she said.

Coleman said once people are determined eligible, the money from LIHEAP is either sent to them or sent to the provider of the heating bill.
