New York City officials are no longer allowing propane heaters for outdoor dining. Propane heaters have become popular during the colder months of the pandemic to help restaurants survive. However, the de Blasio administration says they pose a safety risk and they were only meant to be temporary. Andrew Rigie represents restaurants through the New York City Hospitality Alliance.
“Definitely poses challenges. We hope more restaurants will be able to use electric heaters but we know that has an expense and can be a little more time consuming to install.”
The de Blasio Administration is offering qualified businesses grant money to invest in gas or electric heaters.
