Port Authority is pausing the LaGuardia AirTrain project following a request to put it on hold by Governor Hochul. Port Authority says it will look for other ways to reduce vehicular traffic and increase connectivity to LaGuardia. State Senator Mike Gianaris and others in Queens have been fighting the project that was spearheaded by the Cuomo Administration.
“This was a plan that has ballooned in costs by about 400 percent. We now have the availability of federal monies for different plans that work better and a real study to figure out what is the best option.”
The two billion dollar project was expected to carry air travelers from LaGuardia to Willets Point, where there are subway and LIRR connections.
