Official Calls For Remote Option For NYC Students

The head of the New York City council committee on education is calling on the de Blasio administration to offer a remote option when students head back to the classroom next month.

Former teacher and Councilman Mark Treyger says some parents want all remote.

“Families have been reaching out to me, particularly parents of young children, concerned about the safety of their young kids because there is no vaccine. Principals have reached out to me saying there’s no way they will be able to safely socially distance.”

Treyger points to Dallas saying, all students went back to school there recently and attendance was poor and coronavirus cases rose. Mayor de Blasio says data shows New York City schools were safe last school year. He is sticking with the plan of no remote option but says his administration is working on a policy for students forced to quarantine.
