Street deaths are on the rise in New York City and one Brooklyn lawmaker has a series of bills to address the problem.
State Senator Simcha Felder says there are too many operators of bikes, scooters and e- bikes weaving in and out of traffic and blowing through red lights.
“Streets right now, ever body is doing whatever they want. It’s the wild wild west. I know that from the neighborhood here and I see it.”
So He’ introduced a package of bills. They would require operators of two wheel vehicles to take a street safety course, register their bikes and scooters, display a license plate and make helmets mandatory.
“We have to make sure they are safe whether they like it or not.”
His bills include a 50 dollar fine for those caught without a helmet.
