Mayor de Blasio does not once again want to require masks for everyone indoors in New York City despite one politician pushing him to do so. Councilman Mark Levine says coronavirus cases have tripled in the past couple weeks . He heads the health committee and says it is time to reinstate the indoor mask mandate.

“We have to blunt what could still be another difficult wave. Wearing masks indoors in one effective way to do that.”

Mayor de Blasio says the focus is on getting more people vaccinated.

“A mask doesn’t arrest the progress of the variant. Vaccination does. We are going to go where the real impact is.”

The city’s positivity rate has climbed to one-point-69 percent. The delta variant is now making up 69 percent of cases. Hospitalizations remain steady and low.
