There’s an effort to address what appears to be an increase use of dirt bikes and ATVs on New York City streets.

Resident Yasmin Cruz says not only are dirt bikes and ATVs illegal in New York City but many operators don’t follow street rules.
“I was almost trampled by one passing a green light. They do not care of the traffic lights. We cannot wait until something greater happens.”

There’s new legislation by Council Mark Gjonaj to increase the fine from 500 to 750 dollars for those caught using dirt bikes or ATVs in New York City.

"These motorcycles are endangering not only pedestrians and other motorists but creating havoc and lawlessness in New York City."

dirt bikes and ATVs have resulted in hundreds of injuries and several deaths in the first few months of the year alone. Gjonaj is also asking residents to call police if they know where they are being stored.
