NYC Shut Down Hundreds of Building Sites in June for Safety Violations

On the heels of the building collapse in Florida comes a safety report from the New York City Department of Buildings.

The department shut down hundreds of construction sites around the city in June because of safety violations — 322 to be exact.

Seven construction workers have died in work-related accidents this year. But there is some good news. Construction related injuries fell 15% in 2020 and 21% in 2019. Fatalities fell to 8 in 2020 from 12 in 2019.

Officials say the declines coincided with mandatory safety training for workers and new inspection protocols.
