de Blasio Administration Unveils Juneteenth Economic Justice Plan

The de Blasio Administration is unveiling a Juneteenth Economic Justice Plan for New York City. The plan expands baby bonds to all school districts and creates scholarship accounts for every public school child. It also awards 28-hundred four year CUNY scholarships to black and low income students. Deputy Mayor Phil Thompson says this is a great way to honor Juneteenth, the date marking the end to slavery.

“Our ancestors believed that education would be the key to black liberation because knowledge once obtained can’t be stolen or beaten out of anyone.”

Mayor de Blasio says his economic justice plan is about addressing the wealth gap between whites and blacks. Meanwhile, there are several Juneteenth events planned this weekend in the city.
