The de Blasio administration is trying to help New Yorkers suffering lingering effects from coronavirus. One of the city’s top doctors, Amanda Johnson says in about 10 percent of coronavirus cases, people suffer from what’s known as long COVID.

“I have individuals who are months out from their acute infection of COVID 19 and are still stricken with shortness of breath, chest discomfort, with light headiness, with cough, anxiety, depression, confusion that they didn’t have before their infection.”

The city is starting an aftercare program. Officials will connect folks to mental and physical health resources. They will contact people who noted to test and trace members that they still had symptoms at the end of their isolation period.

New York City pools and beaches will be open on time this year. Mayor de Blasio says beaches will open to the public Memorial Day weekend and pools will open on Saturday June 26th, the day after the last day of school.

“Last year we had to delay the openings with public beaches, we had to limit the number of outdoor public pools. This year we get to do what’s great for the families of this city, the kids of this city.”

de Blasio says COVID related protocols from last summer will remain in place but rules could possibly be loosened in the summer. Five of the outdoor pools will remain shut because of reconstruction projects.
