NY Congressman Seeks to End Cap on SALT Deduction

A newly elected congressman in the Lower Hudson Valley is trying to bring tax relief to New Yorkers.

Congressman Mondaire Jones has introduced a bill that would get rid of the 10-thousand dollar cap on state and local tax deductions known as SALT.

The cap was put in place as part of tax reform under former President Donald Trump.

“Hundreds of thousands of people in Westchester and in Rockland counties saw their tax bills go up. That was money directly taken out of their pockets. It was and continues to be double taxation.”

Jones said he hopes to include his bill in the next COVID 19 stimulus package. The bill is also being pushed in the Senate.
