Hire Newark Launches Citywide Book Club & Accountability Group for Professionals

HIRE NEWARK

The City of Newark, Newark 2020, Audible and Newark Public Library have partnered to launch the Hire Newark Book Club, a professional reading and accountability group moderated by Newark 2020’s high-performance career coaches designed to help members learn new skills, find new ideas, and experience paradigm shifts.  The book club is free and open to all city residents interested in joining a community where they can learn from one another through professional life and career coaches.

The book club has selected New York Times best seller The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg as its first book.  In The Power of Habit, award-winning business reporter Charles Duhigg explains why habits exist and how they can be changed.  In selecting The Power of Habit, Newark 2020 Project Director, Della M. Walker, Jr. states:

“All successful people have one thing in common: productive daily habits. We choose The Power of Habit, as our first selection to guide local professionals in building powerful habits required to achieve personal and professional success as we work to create change and long-term impact in the City of Newark. The book club also provides an opportunity for employer partners to join the Newark residents in this community mastermind to collectively build a stronger workforce.”

There are two cohorts for the book club. Meetings will take place on Sundays at 2pm and Thursdays at 6pm allowing participants to work around their life schedules. The club kicks off this Sunday, January 10th and Thursday, January 14th. Participants who attend at least 80% of the sessions (6 minimum)  will receive a one-on-one coaching session with a career and high-performance coach.

Newark 2020’s high-performance career coaches are certified, have a minimum of 15-years experience and coach nationally and globally.  Some of the coaches are: Angela Hooper-Menifield (Menifield & Associates LLC); Damian Johnson (Mandeville Ingleside LLC); Robin K. Butler (Catalyst Consulting); Anna D. Banks (Thrive Leadership Institute, Inc.);  Kenric S. Lynn (Local Noon, LLC.);Tamara L. Bethea (Abundant Hope Ministries) and Johnanna Rincon (Internal Alignment LLC.). In addition to the high-performance coaches, employer partners will join as co-moderators  to deepen relationships with community members outside the traditional employer-applicant environment.
