NYC Makes March 14 Coronavirus Remembrance Day

Mayor Bill de Blasio has declared March 14 an annual day of remembrance in New York City for coronavirus victims.

The city’s first COVID-related death came on March 14 and there have been more than 25,000 coronavirus deaths in the Big Apple since.

De Blasio said many of the victims were also victims of inequality and didn’t get enough health care over the course of their lives. “It was a disease that affected everyone but it did not affect everyone equally. So on March 14 each year we remember also the painful lessons learned, but it’s a time to rededicate ourselves to making a difference and changing things.”

He said the city would remember victims by being there for their families and honoring those who tried to save them.
