Lee Douglas Named Newark's Acting Police Chief

Newark will have a new acting police chief to start the new year. Captain Lee Douglas, a 24 year member of the force and commander of the 5th precinct, will be the top cop starting Friday. Police Chief Darnell Henry retired on Sept. 30. Douglas joined the Newark police in July 1996 . Mayor Ras Baraka praised his community service, supervisory experience, and professionalism. Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said Douglas will help change the culture of policing and make Newark safer.
