De Blasio Says No New Yorker Will Go Hungry

New York City is launching a big effort to get food to those suffering financially from the coronavirus pandemic.  Mayor Bill de Blasio says one food pantry reported double the demand in the last few weeks.

“We know that the food crisis will grow.”

The city is pumping 170 million dollars into buying food and getting it to those who can’t afford it.  The effort is spearheaded by Kathryn Garcia.

“We will not let any New Yorkers go hungry. We will not compound the tragedy of the pandemic with the tragedy of hunger”

The city is hiring thousands of TLC licensed drivers who are hurting financially.  They will deliver food to residents who can’t get out.

Meanwhile, de blasio is now asking food store managers to make customers wear face coverings.

“Every store has the right to put up that guidance and make it a requirement.”
