There’s now a ban on gatherings of 50 people or more in New York State. All schools statewide will close by Wednesday. Most are already closed.

Governor Cuomo announced a number of new restrictions and orders Monday in an effort to help control the spread of coronavirus. The governor is ordering local governments to reduce the office workforce by at least 50 percent.

He says casinos, theaters and gyms will all close. Restaurants will be limited to takeout and delivery.

“We Strongly advise that only services and businesses that are essential stay open, grocery stores, gas stations, pharmacies, medical facilities.”

The governor is very concerned about hospital space after seeing Italy and China overwhelmed with coronavirus cases. He says the state is working on a plan. “to find existing facilities that could most easily be adapted to medical facilities.”

He said that could possible mean dormitories and former nursing homes. Cuomo is also calling on the federal government to have the Army Corp of Engineers help build temporary hospital facilities.
