Jazz 4 Prostate Cancer Event Coming To Teaneck

jazz4pca.org

Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck, NJ is partnering with Jazz 4 Prostate Cancer Awareness for a brunch featuring a live performance.

“The idea of Jazz 4 Prostate Cancer is what brings men to an event,” said Paul Messer with Jazz4PCA.  “They hear about jazz, they come in, they get a chance to listen, and then when we begin to talk about getting screened, they are a little more receptive to it.”

The event will offer free health screenings for those in attendance.

“Blood pressure, checking for diabetes, and if you meet certain criteria, you’re going to also have an opportunity to be screened.  If you haven’t been diagnosed with prostate cancer before, or any disease related to your prostate, you’ll be able to have a free screening,” Messer said.

A Holy Name specialist will deliver a keynote address on the importance of early prostate cancer detection. Then a panel will convene to discuss the disease.

“These are gentleman that are prostate cancer survivors,” Messer said.  “They didn’t like the name of being called survivors.  So, we put together an organization called Fraternity of Heroes and they are going to speak about their experiences.  How they dealt with prostate cancer, the initial diagnosis, treatment, and how they’re doing today.”

Admission is free but registration is required.  Visit holyname.org/events and click Jazz 4 Prostate Cancer Awareness on September 21st.
