Bruce Williams is one of the most outstanding alto and soprano saxophonists playing today. The solid perspective he refers to on his new recording on WJ3 Records comes from a cumulative knowledge gained from studying with Branford Marsalis, Frank Foster, Oliver Lake, Joe Lovano and Harold Mabern, playing with The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, The Count Basie Orchestra, Jimmy McGriff, Roy Hargrove and The World Saxophone Quartet, in combination with his own recordings as a leader.
With Solid Perspective, Bruce is joined by pianist Brandon McCune, bassist Lonnie Plaxico, and drummer Willie Jones III. The group gives a gorgeous interpretation of Cole Porter's classic "Everytime We Say Goodbye", reimaginations from Jackie McLean and Wayne Shorter, alongside engaging Williams' originals guaranteed to demand more than one listen.
The musical paths taken by Bruce Williams are apparent in every note. The solid perspective is gained by a musical road well taken.
