Jason Miles's '100 Miles For Miles Davis' is a timely salute from a man who was there | New Day New Play

Over the course of his career, pianist, composer, arranger and producer Jason Miles has worked with Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston, David Sanborn, Michael Jackson and Aretha Franklin. But the definitive highlight for Jason was his sound-shaping work with Miles Davis - on Tutu, Amandla and Siesta.

With this week being the actual 100th anniversary of Miles Davis' birth, 100 Miles for Miles Davis is a timely salute from a man who was there.

An album of originals dedicated to Davis, Jason has illuminated this effort with guest trumpeters Randy Brecker, Russell Gunn, Barry Danielian and Patches Stewart, with added creativity from saxophonists Ada Rovatti, Jef Coffin and Jay Rodriguez. Guitarists Tiago Oliviera, Ronnie Drayton, Romero Lubambo and Dean Brown sparkle as well on this salute to the Davis legend.

Hear a track from 100 Miles For Miles Davis each weekday morning @8:20AM, and visit Leo Sidran's The Third Story conversation with Jason on our website (WBGO.org), another service provided by the members of WBGO!

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning on Daybreak. He's the winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year Award and the recipient of the 2021 Marian McPartland-Willis Conover Award for Career Achievement in Broadcasting from the Jazz Journalists Association. Gary hosts the morning show each weekday from 8am til noon. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
