Creating Spaces Where Jazz can be heard up close is the Vibe of Ted Chubb's latest release, 'Live at the Statuary.' | New Day New Play

Growing up in Ohio, trumpeter Ted Chubb fell in Love with Miles Davis, and never looked back.

Over the years Ted's creativity has been heard with Billy Hart, George Coleman, Wallace Roney, Christian McBride and Antonio Hart among countless others. Paying it forward, Ted was an integral part of education at Jazz House Kids, and he currently also teaches at Princeton.
Ted has always preferred creating spaces where jazz can be heard up close.

With that attitude in hand, he and his wife reopened an historic building in Jersey City - The Statuary, as a performance space, where this recording was captured. With Bruce Williams on alto sax, Oscar Perez on piano & Fender Rhodes, bassist Tom DiCarlo and drummer Jerome Jennings, they share originals with a hip reimagination of "Out Of This World", some John Lewis and other surprises, expressed as it should be - live!

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning on Daybreak. He's the winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year Award and the recipient of the 2021 Marian McPartland-Willis Conover Award for Career Achievement in Broadcasting from the Jazz Journalists Association. Gary hosts the morning show each weekday from 8am til noon. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
