Guitarist Ray Obiedo puts his signature spin on 'Slight Accent', this week's New Day New Play

With a twist of Latin and contemporary jazz flavors, guitarist Ray Obiedo puts his signature spin on Slight Accent, his 12th recording on his own Rhythmus label. With an A-list ensemble, including special guests like saxophonist Bob Mintzer and others, Ray puts his own feel into classics by Wayne Shorter and Henry Mancini, alongside inspired originals, brewing an energetic diverse soundscape for his guitar artistry.

Hear a track from Ray Obiedo's Slight Accent each weekday morning @ 8:20, another feature made possible by the members of WBGO.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning on Daybreak. He's the winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year Award and the recipient of the 2021 Marian McPartland-Willis Conover Award for Career Achievement in Broadcasting from the Jazz Journalists Association. Gary hosts the morning show each weekday from 8am til noon. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
