Drummer Gregory Hutchinson celebrates Miles Davis with new album, 'Kind of Now' | New Day New Play

2026 marks the centennial celebration of a number of jazz greats, including Tony Bennett, Jimmy Heath, Melba Liston, Lou Donaldson, John Coltrane, and Miles Davis.

Drummer Gregory Hutchinson celebrates Miles with his upcoming release, Kind of Now, an updated look at music associated with Miles over the decades. You'll hear a fresh approach to classics like Ah-Leu-Cha (which Miles recorded with Charlie Parker early in his career), Fran-Dance, Water Babies, Seven Steps to Heaven, Bitches Brew, and other lesser-known nuggets aligned with Davis' career.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning on Daybreak. He's the winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year Award and the recipient of the 2021 Marian McPartland-Willis Conover Award for Career Achievement in Broadcasting from the Jazz Journalists Association. Gary hosts the morning show each weekday from 8am til noon. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
