Conrad Herwig's 'Reflections - Facing South'

In addition to his affinity for Charles Mingus, trombonist Conrad Herwig has pridefully shared the Latin side of things - Miles Dais, Wayne Shorter, Joe Henderson, Herbie Hancock and other giants have had their compositions given a Latin tinge by Herwig, his reflections always facing South.

For his new album, "Reflections Facing South", he's joined by two outstanding practitioners of the art - the late piano giant Eddie Palmieri, and his musical mate for many of his own encounters - bassist Luques Curtis. There's no drummer in this threesome, but plenty of rhythm making moves the project along wonderfully, with Eddie and Conrad sharing some of their favorite compositions for the trio to explore and you to enjoy.

Hear a track each morning at 8:20 AM, another feature made possible by the contributors to WBGO.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning on Daybreak. He's the winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year Award and the recipient of the 2021 Marian McPartland-Willis Conover Award for Career Achievement in Broadcasting from the Jazz Journalists Association. Gary hosts the morning show each weekday from 8am til noon. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
