Jed Levy's Faces and Places

Saxophonist Jed Levy possesses an amazingly versatile sound, which over 4 decades has had him working with Junior Mance, The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Eddie Henderson, Chico O'Farrill's Afro-Cuban Orchestra, Tom Harrell, Jack McDuff, Cedar Walton and The Four Tops!

Faces and Spaces, Jed's 11th album as a leader, is a collection of original compositions - expressions of some of those stops along his musical journey.

With pianist Luis Perdomo, bassist Peter Slavov and drummer Alvester Garnett, Jed shares a feel for what must have been the appeal that's attracted so many to his corner, all displayed with infectious grooves and melodies, demonstrated within the mastery of the modern jazz vocabulary.

Hear a track from Faces and Places each weekday morning at 8:20 AM, another feature made possible by the contributors to WBGO.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning on Daybreak. He's the winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year Award and the recipient of the 2021 Marian McPartland-Willis Conover Award for Career Achievement in Broadcasting from the Jazz Journalists Association. Gary hosts the morning show each weekday from 8am til noon. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
