The NYU Wayne Shorter Ensemble Records at Yamaha Artist Services Studio in NYC for WBGO's Jazz Appreciation Month Celebration
Since the fall of 2008, David Pietro, Director of Jazz Studies at the Dept. of Music & Performing Arts Professions at NYU Steinhardt and the NYU Wayne Shorter Ensemble have performed more than 150 compositions by NYU alumnus Wayne Shorter, class of 1956, from his early works with Art Blakey and the Blue Note label through his work with Miles Davis, Weather Report and his later recordings on the Columbia and Verve labels.
Pietro accompanied the 2025 lineup of the ensemble which consists of Joe McCann - Alto Saxophone, Anthony Bolden - Tenor Saxophone, Daniel Gonzalez - Guitar, Kevin Du - Piano, Joaquin Eaton-Sharon - Bass, Nino Aiyer - Drums and Alessandra Clarke - Guest Vocalist to Yamaha's studio recently where they performed the following Shorter compositions:
