History Of the Vibraphone by Warren Wolf

Vibraphone: a percussion instrument resembling a xylophone but having metal bars and motor-driven resonators for sustaining the tone and producing a vibrato.
IT'S NOT A XYLOPHONE! One listen to vibraphonist Warren Wolf and you can immediately tell here is a musician who has studied thoroughly those laid down good vibes before him. So it makes perfect sense to look in his direction for a primer on the instrument.

History Of The Vibraphone does just that, played forward, with Warren and his band getting you to nod right along to the feel of Terry Gibbs, Lionel Hampton, Milt Jackson, Cal Tjader, Bobby Hutcherson, Roy Ayers, Gary Burton, Joe Locke and Dave Samuels. There's a definite nudge to the Now, with Warren, saxophonist Tim Green, Alex Brown on piano and Fender Rhodes, bassist Vicente Archer and drummer Carroll "CV" Dashiell III making a strong swinging statement that it's ok to look over your shoulder, for historical perspective and future celebration of your instrument and the music.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning on Daybreak. He's the winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year Award and the recipient of the 2021 Marian McPartland-Willis Conover Award for Career Achievement in Broadcasting from the Jazz Journalists Association. Gary hosts the morning show each weekday from 8am til noon. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
