Jazz at Lincoln Center has announced that Jazz Congress will be held January 8-9, 2025 at Frederick P. Rose hall in New York City. Founded in 2018 and produced by Jazz at Lincoln Center, the conference brings together artists and professionals from across the international jazz community for a series of panels, workshops and special events. Among the sessions planned for the 2025 edition of Jazz Congress are panels such as “Jukebox Jury,” “Celebrating Roy Haynes,” and “Ask Us Anything.” In addition to offering sessions curated by conference organizers, Jazz Congress invites the broader community to propose their own session ideas through a straightforward online application. Submissions can be made at https://jazzcongress.org/submitapanel.

The Bruce Lundvall Visionary Award will be presented to a jazz artist or professional. The recipient will be announced in the coming weeks. The award was created in 2014 in honor of the longtime jazz record executive who was a champion and advocate for so many jazz artists over the last four decades. The annual award recognizes someone who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership and vision in expanding the audience for jazz and who has made a real difference for the artists, the music and the audience. Previous recipients include Randall Kline, Brice Rosenbloom, Christian McBride, Terri Lyne Carrington, Darlene Chan, Barry Harris, Danilo Perez and Dee Dee Bridgewater.

Jazz Congress was founded in 2018, initially as a collaboration with JazzTimes, which had previously produced or co-produced various jazz events, including the JazzTimes Convention, the IAJE industry track, and the Jazz Connect Conference. With the support of Jazz at Lincoln Center, which contributes significant experience and resources, Jazz Congress has evolved into a prominent industry gathering that honors the past while looking forward to the future. Over the years, Jazz Congress has united jazz artists and industry professionals from across the globe. The conference leads into both APAP and Winter JazzFest, creating a critical mass of the international jazz community in NYC in January.

The Jazz Congress Advisory Board includes Gene Dobbs Bradford, Terri Lyne Carrington, Chanel Enriquez, Stefon Harris, Karen Kennedy, Don Lucoff, Riley Mulherkar, Katie Simon, Denny Stilwell, and Helen Sung. Former WBGO Editorial Content Producer Lee Mergner serves as a co-producer of the event.
