Michael O’Neill’s album ‘Synergy’ featured on WBGO’s New Day, New Play May 20-24

Synergy - the melding of influences, many times into something new. Something exciting.

Such is the case with saxophonist/arranger Michael O'Neill and his sextet on his 7th release, Synergy. What brings tunes by Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, George & Ira Gershwin, Johnny Mercer and others is vocalist Tony Lindsay, long time lead singer with Santana, and an O'Neill collaborator on previous outings. This time you'll hear Afro-Latin grooves and Afro-Caribbean rhythms laid down for Tony to work his magic into this synergistic encounter,

From Monday, May 20 through Friday, May 24, one cut from Michael O’Neill’s album Synergy will be featured each morning in the New Day, New Play spotlight on my Daybreak show.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning on Daybreak. He's the winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year Award and the recipient of the 2021 Marian McPartland-Willis Conover Award for Career Achievement in Broadcasting from the Jazz Journalists Association. Gary hosts the morning show each weekday from 8am til noon. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
