Charles Lloyd’s album ‘The Sky Will Still Be There Tomorrow’ featured on WBGO’s New Day, New Play April 8-12

A journey with saxophonist and flutist Charles Lloyd is a listener's travelogue to join the creators here to get away, away from the tension convention we're often attending, to a better place, a place of free thought, recollection, and promise. Gathering together a quartet, with pianist Jason Moran, double bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Brian Blade, Lloyd takes us to Billie Holiday, a dance with Monk, a nod to old friend Booker Little, along with other musical expressions, strongly relaying that whatever the issues facing us today, the music does not eradicate, but rather provide the promise that the sky will still be there tomorrow.

From Monday, April 8 through Friday, April 12, one cut from Charles Lloyd’s album Truth to Power will be featured each morning in the New Day, New Play spotlight on my Daybreak show.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning. This winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year award has hosted the morning show each weekday from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
