Jazz at Lincoln Center to salute Tony Bennett at its annual gala on Apr. 17

On April 17, Jazz at Lincoln Center will pay tribute to the legacy of the singular vocalist Tony Bennett in a special concert at its annual gala at the Rose Theater in NYC. The concert will feature the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis accompanying a stellar and diverse lineup of guest vocalists including Rubén Blades, Kristin Chenoweth, Norm Lewis, Kurt Elling, Ekep Nkwelle, Robbie Lee and Bernadette Peters. The pianist Bill Charlap, who has had a long association with Bennett, and the tap dancer Jared Grimes will also perform at this event which raises funds to support Jazz at Lincoln Center’s longtime mission to promote jazz to the world.

For over 27 years, Lee Mergner served as an editor and publisher of JazzTimes until his resignation in January 2018. Thereafter, Mergner continued to regularly contribute features, profiles and interviews to the publication as a contributing editor for the next 4+ years. JazzTimes, which has won numerous ASCAP-Deems Taylor awards for music journalism, was founded in 1970 and was described by the All Music Guide, as “arguably the finest jazz magazine in the world.”
