Master bassist Rufus Reid can be heard on albums by Dexter Gordon, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Quartet, Stan Getz, Kenny Barron, J.J. Johnson and countless others. His Quiet Pride recording gave musical interpretation of the sculptures of Elizabeth Catlett, resulting in two Grammy nominations. In 2019, Rufus teamed up with pianist Sullivan Fortner for It’s The Nights I Like, just out for the first time digitally. Alongside Reid's originals, there are engaging expressions of works by Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington and Charles Mingus, showing restraint but astonishment at every turn.
From Monday, February 19 through Friday, February 23, one cut from Rufus Reid’s album It’s the Nights I Like will be featured each morning in the New Day, New Play spotlight on my Daybreak show.
