Photo Gallery: Images from the 2024 NYC Winter JazzFest

Held over the course of nine days (January 10-18) at more than a dozen venues throughout Brooklyn and downtown Manhattan, the 20th edition of the NYC Winter JazzFest featured a wide array of artists across nearly every genre of jazz. The British saxophonist Shabaka served as artist-in-residence and performed at five different concerts during the festival including a duo show with Joe Lovano at Dizzy’s, as well as a set with Brandee Younger and esperanza spalding at LPR. The festival honored numerous noteworthy artists including Max Roach, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Sun Ra (specifically his poetry).

The marathons on Friday and Saturday nights were presented at venues in Manhattan and Brooklyn, respectively and featured shows at clubs and theaters, club-crawl style. Among the performers in Manhattan were Marc Ribot & Mary Halvorson, Immanuel Wilkins, Saul Williams, Tyshawn Sorey Piano Trio, Samara Pinderhughes and Brandee Younger. Performing on Saturday night at eight venues in Brooklyn were Julius Rodriguez, Harriet Tubman, Caroline Davis, Matana Roberts, Tineke Postma, Jose James, Terri Lyne Carrington & Social Science and many more.

Photographers Anthony Nieves and Anna Yatskevich made the rounds of the many venues and shared the images in the photo gallery, above.
