Dave Stryker’s album ‘Groove Street’ featured on WBGO’s New Day, New Play January 1-5

On every recording guitarist Dave Stryker brings a sense memory of working with "Brother" Jack McDuff, Stanley Turrentine, the WDR Big Band directed by Bob Mintzer in addition to tons of music he heard growing up with that guitar at his side, adding his own groove to what he heard and felt. Dave's trio, with organist Jared Gold and drummer McClenty Hunter, have made countless performances and numerous recordings together—a synergy that just can't be manufactured.

On his new recording, Groove Street, the trio adds the saxophone of Dave's long-time friend Bob Mintzer, to ignite a collection of classics by Eddie Harris, Wayne Shorter and Harry Warren alongside some spirited originals to bring us all to Groove Street.

From Monday, January 1 through Friday, January 5, one cut from the Groove Street album will be featured each morning on the New Day, New Play spotlight on my Daybreak show.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning. This winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year award has hosted the morning show each weekday from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
