Gregory Tardy’s new album ‘In His Timing’ featured on WBGO’s New Day, New Play December 4-8

Gregory Tardy

For his new recording, In His Timing, saxophonist Gregory Tardy focuses on the instrument that first brought him to the dance—the clarinet. Classically trained, we first heard his saxophone as a leader, and with work with Elvin Jones, Wynton Marsalis, Roy Hargrove, Betty Carter, Joe Lovano and Stefan Harris, among countless others. With this new release, Tardy's clarinet shines, alongside violinist Regina Carter, pianist Taber Gable, bassist Matthew Parrish and drummer Alvester Garnett, with a collection of originals and works from Frank Loesser, Johnny Hodges and Tom Harrell.

From Monday, December 4 through Friday, December 8, one cut from the In His Timing album will be featured each morning on the New Day, New Play spotlight on my Daybreak show.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning. This winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year award has hosted the morning show each weekday from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
