Cory Weeds’ new album ‘Home Cookin’ featured on WBGO’s New Day, New Play Nov. 27 – Dec. 2

Canadian saxophonist Cory Weeds has reimagined the Earth, Wind & Fire songbook, played or recorded with Christian McBride, Joey DeFrancesco and Mike LeDonne, started his own jazz club and label at 26, and continues to put out engaging performances on record. Home Cookin' features an 11-piece orchestra made up of some of today's top Vancouver, BC musicians, putting new looks on works of Horace Silver and Thad Jones, sparkling on an Oliver Nelson arrangement of “Lullaby of the Leaves,” alongside some impressive originals.

From Monday, November 27 through Friday, December 1, one cut from the Home Cookin’ album will be featured each morning on the New Day, New Play spotlight on my Daybreak show.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning. This winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year award has hosted the morning show each weekday from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
