Saxophonist Ron Blake’s new album ‘Mistaken Identity’ featured on WBGO’s New Day, New Play November 13-17

Ron Blake

Saxophonist Ron Blake's talents have been heard with Roy Hargrove, Christian McBride, Art Farmer and Roy Haynes, to name just a few. He's also on your television as the baritone saxophonist in the SNL Band, a gig he's had for 18 years. With Mistaken Identity Ron gets the spotlight on tenor and baritone sax, alongside guitarist Bobby Broom, bassists Nat Reeves and Reuben Rogers and drummer Kobie Watkins. It's a spirited collection of tunes by Duke Pearson, Sonny Rollins, Johnny Griffin and Benny Golson, in addition to a couple of fine originals from the leader, guitarist Broom and bassist Rogers.

From Monday, November 13 through Friday, November 17, one cut from the Mistaken Identity album will be featured each morning on the New Day, New Play spotlight on my Daybreak show.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning. This winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year award has hosts the morning show each weekday from 6:00am -12:00pm. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
