Drummer Richard Baratta’s ‘Off the Charts’ featured on WBGO’s New Day, New Play October 23-27

Drummer Richard Baratta’s last two releases focused on music in film. (Something he knows about in his other gig as producer of films including Joker, Wolf of Wall Street and The Irishman.) This time out, with Off the Charts, the focus is on lesser-known tunes from Bobby Hutcherson, Joe Farrell, Joe Henderson, Charles Lloyd, Wayne Shorter and others, given a fresh spark with Richard’s rhythms alongside tenor saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi, pianist and keyboardist David Kikoski, bassist John Patitucci and percussionist Paul Rossman.

From Monday, October 23 through Friday, October 27, one cut from the Off the Charts album will be featured each morning on the New Day, New Play spotlight on my Daybreak show.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning. This winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year award has hosted the morning show each weekday from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
