Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, A Nuyorican Tale, the new recording from bassist Carlos Henriquez is a perfect fit. Following in the footsteps of his Grammy-nominated 2021 album, The South Bronx Story, A Nuyorican Tale is an insightful and grooving history lesson, As Carlos says, "After you listen to these Latin jazz interpretations of the stories that are the pinnacle and representation of my life, you will get the sense of the importance of my people, their culture and what they've provided via their stories and music to our city."

From Monday, October 2 through Friday, October 6, one cut from the A Nuyorican Tale album will be featured each morning on the New Day, New Play spotlight on my Daybreak show.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning on Daybreak. He's the winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year Award and the recipient of the 2021 Marian McPartland-Willis Conover Award for Career Achievement in Broadcasting from the Jazz Journalists Association. Gary hosts the morning show each weekday from 8am til noon. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
