Kurt Elling & Charlie Hunter’s album ‘The Iridescent Spree’ featured on New Day, New Play Sep. 11-15

Kurt Elling
Kurt Elling

Kurt Elling is one of today's most challenging vocalists. Charlie Hunter is one of today's most creative guitarists. With SuperBlue: The Iridescent Spree this inventive pair continues to bend genres with a collection of reimaginations of works by Joni Mitchell, Ornette Coleman, and Bob Dorough, alongside crafty originals, pairing the twosome with keyboardist DJ Harrison and drummer Corey Fonville, with guests, including flutist Elena Pinderhughes. There's a forward to their motion which is most enjoyable.

From Monday, September 11 through Friday, September 15, one cut from The Iridescent Spree album will be featured each morning on the New Day, New Play spotlight on my Daybreak show.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning on Daybreak. He's the winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year Award and the recipient of the 2021 Marian McPartland-Willis Conover Award for Career Achievement in Broadcasting from the Jazz Journalists Association. Gary hosts the morning show each weekday from 8am til noon. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
