Michael Davis’s ‘Open City’ featured on WBGO’s New Day, New Play Sep. 4-8

Michael Davis

Trombonist Michael Davis's work has been featured with Bob Mintzer, Aretha Franklin, Buddy Rich, The Rolling Stones and countless others, in addition to his own 11 recordings as a leader.

Open City is the reflective spirit and joy with being able to make music again post-pandemic with the palette of a large ensemble to express it. With 24 of the finest musicians in the jazz world today, this collection of ten larger than life encounters is a daring portrayal of what's possible when individual talents come together as one.

From Monday, September 4 through Friday, September 8, one cut from the Open City album will be featured each morning on the New Day, New Play spotlight on my Daybreak show.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning. This winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year award has hosted the morning show each weekday from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
