Dara Starr Tucker’s eponymous album featured on WBGO’s New Day, New Play July 17-21

We first heard Dara Tucker on WBGO with her 2021 release, Dreams of Waking: Music For A Better World. With Dara Starr Tucker, Dara continues with her wonderful reimagining of works by Billie Eilish, John Denver, Kurt Weill and Bill Withers, but also expresses connective messages and social commentary on engaging originals. Dara surrounds herself here with some of today's top players—pianists Aaron Parks and Mike King (also on Rhodes), James Hurt on Rhodes, bassists Vicente Archer and Greg Bryant, trumpeter Giveton Gelin, Stacy Dillard's soprano sax, John Ellis on tenor sax and bass clarinet and drummer Marcus Finnie.

One listen will just get you started.

From Monday, July 17 through Friday, July 21, one cut from the Dara Starr Tucker album will be featured each morning on the New Day, New Play spotlight on my Daybreak show.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning. This winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year award has hosted the morning show each weekday from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
