Over time Joe Locke has added his vibraphonist spirit to the works of Grover Washington, Jr., Kenny Barron, Eddie Henderson, Raul Midon, Ron Carter, Dianne Reeves and Eddie Palmieri. On his new release, Makram, Locke also shows us he's perfectly well when left alone, as heard on a gorgeous take on Billy Strayhorn's “Lush Life.” For the rest of this effort, Joe joins the nucleus of pianist Jim Ridl, bassist Lorin Cohen and drummer Samvel Sarkisyan, in addition to special guests who come together for just the right blend of instrumentation, curious meters and honorable sentiments.
From Monday, April 24 through Friday, April 28, one cut from Makram by Joe Locke will be featured each morning on the New Day, New Play spotlight on my Daybreak show.
