Grounded in African-derived global rhythms, vibraphonist Jay Hoggard's new release Raise Your Spirit Consciousness does what Jay says: " I'm trying to give the audience something to grab on to, a pathway to a higher level of being." With saxophonist Dwight Andrews, pianist Nat Adderley, Jr., organist/pianist James Weizmann, bassist Kenny Davis and drummer Pheeroan akLaff, Hoggard features eight originals along with reimagining works by Duke Ellington, Wayne Shorter and Stevie Wonder.

From Monday, February 13 through Friday, February 17, one cut from Raise Your Spirit Consciousness album will be featured each morning on the New Day, New Play spotlight on my Daybreak show.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning on Daybreak. He's the winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year Award and the recipient of the 2021 Marian McPartland-Willis Conover Award for Career Achievement in Broadcasting from the Jazz Journalists Association. Gary hosts the morning show each weekday from 8am til noon. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
