With the attitude of ‘60s jazz, trumpeter Rebecca Coupe Franks looks to the sky on her new album Planets, a collection of originals, capturing what she says is, " a musical interpretation of 9 planets and the Sun and the Moon." Rebecca takes on her Milky Way musical journey with fellow explorers Louis Perdomo on piano, bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Johnathan Blake. Enjoy the ride, knowing you didn't even need Elon Musk to get there.

From Monday, Jan. 9 through Friday, Jan. 13, one cut from Franks’ Planets album will be featured each morning on the New Day, New Play spotlight on my Daybreak show.

Listen to “Planet X” from Planets, above.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning. This winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year award has hosted the morning show each weekday from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
