Every week, we'll be spotlighting a brand-new album that we're excited to share with you. We call it New Day, New Play. This week’s selection is Fade to Black, the latest album from Carmen Lundy.

Singer, composer, and instrumentalist Carmen Lundy is a storyteller of the highest order; the reason being most of the stories are her own. On Fade To Black, she shares tales of personal values, loss, a woman's right to vote and choice, and the invasive culture of modern technology and commitment, all told in passionate, smart, loving and jazzy ways to transfix the listener.

On these 11 originals Carmen surrounds herself with all-star messengers: pianist Julius Rodriguez, Matthew Whitaker on organ and keyboards, bassists Kenny Davis and Curtis Lundy, guitarist Andrew Renfroe, trumpeters Wallace Roney, Jr. and Giveton Gelin, saxophonists Camille Thurman and Morgan Guerin, and drummer Terreon Gully. By the way, the cover art is Carmen's creation too. An accomplished visual artist, a gallery of her work can be viewed at her website carmenlundy.com.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning. This winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year award has hosted the morning show each weekday from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
